Time by Pink Floyd.

Shad used to write me letters in high school & would decorate the envelopes (to my father's dismay). He wrote some lines from "Time" and every time I hear the song I can see his quirky little handwriting on the envelope.

"The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say"

How 'bout all those old "mix tapes" you used to listen to in the car and everywhere else? How many times do you find yourself frustrated that they didn't play the "next song" when you hear one of those old songs on the radio?

I'm sure any of us with older siblings spent many a day listening to their albums... yes, albums, actual vinyl records on a record player...

I spent summers listening to the Doors, Foreigner, CSNY, and now I have all of those albums on CD and on an Ipod. And it does leave me so confused when the "next" song is not the correct next song!

I still have about 100 albums...Queen, Beatles, and a bunch of 80s stuff (remember 'The Safety Dance'?)...

I just need to get a turntable that works!

Whenever I hear Annie Lenox's steamy voice doing "Sweet Dreams are made of..." I think of Lynne Langley and St. Augustine and an entire weekend, really. It was the Fall of my Sophmore year and her folks had taken us up there and that song was new and hip and fresh... I can still remember moments of that trip as vividly as if they'd happened yesterday. Weird how that works.

This topic makes me think of a Clint Black song (hey, I work in country radio... which, yes, Kate... you can hear online at http://www.937kcountry.com click on "listen live)... It's called "State of Mind" and the chorus kicks off with "Ain't it funny how a melody can bring back a memory..." Now it's going to be stuck in my head all day... All I have to do is hear "Down Boys' by Warrant and I immediately get a picture of being at Scott Caudle's house and being a nervous wreck because I had such a huge crush on him.

"Hotel California" always reminds me of two separate relationships from my college days. I always took it as a good sign that I didn't hear that song on the radio when my husband and I started dating. :D

Every time I hear "I Would Die 4 U", I remember when it played over the PA while the buses loaded. This was in 10th grade...so, 87 or 88. I know who did that...put it in to play, and then locked the door so no one could turn it off. It was still on as my bus left, how long did that go on before they got a key?
